Year 4 Autumn Term

Welcome to year 4!

We hope you all had an enjoyable and restful summer holiday. Please read the attached termly overview for all the information about our topics over this term.

We are starting with the topic ‘Waterways’. We have some exciting trips planned including visiting Foxton Locks, river walks and carrying out geography work at The Grand Union Canal Basin. After half term, we will be studying ‘Food and Health’.

Swimming lessons will start on Monday 4th September and the final session is on Monday 9th October. All children will need to wear a coat as we walk to the Leisure Centre in all weathers.

In Year 4 we like children to have their P.E. kits in school every day. The indoor kit should include: black shorts, white t-shirts and correctly fitting plimsolls. For outdoor sessions the children will need a warm tracksuit and trainers.

The children will bring their Home–School Contact Book home daily and will need to return it every morning. Please ensure you write in it when your child has read at home, as the children can earn extra house points for this! We request you read and talk to your child about their book at least 3 times a week. Children can choose a book from school or may read a preferred book from home.

We have noticed that by Year 4, children bring pencil cases which distract from their learning and are unable to fit into their classroom drawers. If children feel the need to bring in their own stationary the case needs to fit easily into their drawer and contain only basic items. If pencil cases are too large, your child will be asked to keep it at home.

Due to limited cloakroom space, could children only bring essential items into school for which they are responsible. Please could you also ensure that every item of uniform and PE kit is clearly labelled with your child’s name. Laundry pens are the easiest and quickest way!

Weekly spellings will be given out on Tuesday mornings and are tested the following Monday. Homework is given on a termly grid for children to select preferred tasks. A Homework book will provided to record their achievements.

We are sure the children will enjoy learning through our topics this term, if you have any questions you would like to ask us please come in to see us after school when we will be happy to talk to you.

Thank you.
