White Rose maths w/c 12th October
Following on from last weeks work on addition we will now be working on subtraction. Consolidating a clear understanding that subtraction not only means taking away or reducing and amount but can also be used to show the difference between numbers. The important connection that the reverse of subtraction is addition will be explored.
Subtraction is not all about formal column methods and the final work sheet look at efficient methods of finding answers. Many children will write out a laborious column addition for the following 201 - 199. This usually leads to errors as all the exchanging (borrowing) gets muddled. Many are surprised to see the answer is 2.
