Science Days

We have been learning about the word 'absorbent' and we led with a question that we had to find out.

What is the best material to make a pirate's coat?

We used 5 materials (bin bag, j-cloth, fur, foil and Mr Mooney's jeans) and tested to see how much water they would hold. The pirate wanted to stay dry so we had to make sure that the best material was NOT absorbent.

Our conclusion was that the bin bag was the least absorbent and so this would be a fine material for a pirates coat; although it wouldn't be as stylish as a coat made out of Mr Mooney's jeans!
