Starting Foundation August 2021

Congratulations on getting a place at our school and a huge welcome to you all to the Little Bowden Family!

Please keep an eye on this page over the coming weeks as we will be updating it for you with relevant information and a new video of the classroom. You will be split into two classes for things like the register, some lesson introductions, parent/teacher meetings. However, most of the time we operate as one larger 'bubble' and the children mix freely with each other throughout our indoor and outdoor classroom spaces. Although you will be assigned to one teacher and assistant, all of the staff work with all of the children on various tasks.

We are so sorry that we have been unable to welcome you and your child into school for the normal transition meetings due to the current coronavirus restrictions on not mixing bubbles from different settings.

Mrs Janet Baldwin (Head of EYFS) has been out and about completing socially distanced visits to your child’s pre-school setting. So far she has been to the following pre-school settings:

Child’s Play Pre-School, Caterpillars Day Nursery, Kiddi Caru Pre-School, Castle Lane Day Nursery, Progress House Day Nursery, Little Bowden Pre-school, Childminder – Mrs Freestone, Welland Park Pre-school, Dairy Farm Day Nursery Daffodils Outdoor Nursery and Busy Bees Nursery. If your child is at a different pre-school or child-minder (or not at any setting) and would like a visit outdoors in a garden and she will wear a mask, then do please email her -

Once all the visits have taken place, we will email you to let you know which class teacher your child has been assigned to.

In order to ensure a smooth transition for your child starting school in September, we will be having staggered sessions for their first few weeks of the term.  This reduces the number of children in the class initially so that it is less overwhelming for them. The children will be split into two groups depending on their date of birth called 'younger' or 'older.' The school office will have already emailed you to advise which group your child is in and will have included a timetable setting out when your child’s sessions will be.

When we email you the details of which class your child will be in, we will also include a time slot for Wednesday 25th August, Thursday 26th or Friday 27th for you to visit for an initial ‘Stay and Play’ session with your child. We are happy to welcome both parents with their child. During this session, you will have the chance to explore the inside and outside classroom, have a play in the setting, take your own child to the toilet to familiarize them with the facilities and to have a chat with your child’s class teacher.

In terms of uniform, please wear the school uniform for your 'Stay and Play' session, as we’re sure you will want to take lots of photos of their first day! . From the week commencing September 20th your child may come already dressed in their P.E. kit and trainers every Monday and Friday and school uniform the rest of the week.

During the summer you may want to make a scrapbook about your family, hobbies, pets, day trips or holidays etc to bring into school and keep in you drawer to share with your new friends and teachers.

If any of you, your parents or grandparents love gardening there is a bay marked EYFS in the school garden and you are welcome to visit it during the summer holiday and plant anything you like and look after it during the summer. Take some photos during the summer to ‘Show and Tell’ your new class about.

We are really looking forward to your first visit. Have a really lovely summer holiday.

Best wishes,

The EYFS Team.
