  • Watch the Geraldine Giraffe Video to learn the ‘ay’ digraph -
  • Afterwards, have a go at saying the sound and the rhyme ‘ay – may I play?’ See if you can find this digraph on your sound mat.
  • Have a go at writing practising writing out the digraph using the sound sheet (below). If you do not have a printer, you can practise tracing over some letters written out by a grown-up and then have a go at drawing out some of your own on plain paper.

  • Listen to the story 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson. Story link:
  • See if you can retell the story using your own words. Think carefully about what happened in the beginning, the middle and the end of the story.
  • Use drama to pretend to be each of the animals in the story. Think about how each animal would move and how they would sound. See if a grown-up can guess which animal you are pretending to be (e.g. dog, horse, cow, sheep, fish, pig (hog), duck, goose, hen, cat and ladybird).
  • Afterwards see if you can draw a picture of your favourite animal and write out a sentence to explain which animal you are pretending to be (e.g. I am a dog.).
