School lunches, snacks, milk and drinks
Food at school - snacks, drinks, milk and lunches
Snacks
Your child is welcome to bring in a snack to eat during the morning breaktime. This should be fruit / veg only. All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are offered a free fruit snack every day.
Drinks
We ask that your child brings a drinks bottle to school with them every day, filled with water. They can then drink water during the day, as needed. Please do not send your child into school with juice, or anything else in their drinks bottle. Please make sure that their drinks bottle is labelled with their name (as lots of children have identical bottles!).
Milk
All children under 5 are entitled for a free carton of milk every day - this is usually around 10.00-10.30 in the morning. Occasionally (e.g. if the suppliers are delayed), children will have their milk slightly later in the day. If your child is under 5 and you do not want them to have milk, please let the school office know.
If your child is over 5 you can opt to pay for them to have milk. You will need to register their details, and make payment, with our milk supplier, Cool Milk.
Allergies
Please note that - due to a number of children and staff with serious allergies - we are a NUT-FREE and SEED-FREE school. This means that children must not bring any nuts or seeds into school, either as a snack, or in their lunchboxes. This includes peanuts (and peanut butter), walnuts, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, pecans, cashews, pistachios and sesame seeds.
If your child has any allergies, intolerances or dietary needs, and you are booking school lunches for him/her on School Grid (see below), please check carefully when selecting meals, as all ingredients and allergens are listed, and please make sure that any food allergies or intolerances and/or dietary requirements are recorded accurately on School Grid.
School lunches
Your child can have the choice of having a school lunch or bringing a packed lunch. You do not need to follow a consistent pattern.
All school lunch at Little Bowden are provided by Dolce, who also cater for a number of other schools in this area. Dolce offer a varied menu, with several choices every day.
Parents / carers need to order school lunches using a system called School Grid. You can either use the School Grid app, or you can log in at www.schoolgrid.co.uk.
If you are a parent / carer and you have not received login details for School Grid, please contact the school office (office@littlebowden.leics.sch.uk).
The cost of lunch is £2.70 per child, per day, and payments should be made via School Grid.
If your child is in reception, year 1 or year 2, you do not need to pay for their lunches, as all children in key stage one can have a free lunch every day, but you must still order their choices on School Grid.
If you have a child in years 3 to 6, who is entitled to free lunches under the Free School Meals scheme, you will not need to make any payments, but you will need to place orders on School Grid.
Please note that you can also make sure that any allergies or intolerances that your child may have are recorded on School Grid.
