2BM and 2GK

Hello,

This is the last week of home schooling, before we all return on Monday 8th March. Thank you all so much for the hard work and dedication you have shown towards helping your child learn, while at home.

We  really do appreciate it.

The following information is relevant when all children are back in school.

P.E.

Both classes will have an indoor and outdoor P.E. session each week (Wednesdays and Fridays). Due to the current situation, a PE kit is not required in school however we would like children to come to school in trainers so that they have appropriate footwear for sport. The weather will be significantly colder during this term and we please ask that children are dressed appropriately including a waterproof coat.

HOME READING

Your child will continue to have 2 reading books sent home each week and these are usually changed on a Monday. As children move higher in the book band colours, they may only receive 1 to take home as books become longer. Please ensure that the reading record is brought into school every day for reading with the adults in school. We encourage as much reading at home as possible (even if it is just 5 minutes a night) and making sure that children are reading fluently and understanding some tricky words that they come across. We are happy for you to also read any books that you have from the library or from online services.

These are read along materials. However, if you switch the volume off on your computer or device this will encourage your child to read aloud independently. Please choose a book which matches your child's current book band colour.

ALLERGIES/ASTHMA/COVID-19

If your child suffers from either of these, please let the class teacher know. If your child is displaying any symptoms of coronavirus, is isolating or has tested positive, please ensure that you let the school know so that remote learning can take place for your child.

DRINKS

We encourage children to drink water regularly throughout the day. Please ensure that your child’s drink bottle is clearly labelled.

HOMEWORK

Thank you to everybody who completed work at home during the Autumn Term. It was great to read and we always appreciate any extra work that you do at home. Homework will be sent home once every half term in the format of a Tic-Tac-Toe Grid. The Spring Term grid has been sent home but can also be found in the homework link below.

OVERVIEWS AND EXPECTATIONS

We have published the Year 2 expectations in the links below and we will continue to work towards these in our Year 2 classes. The children no longer have an end of year SATS test but instead will be assessed by their teachers. Please take the time to look through the expectations and reinforce any learning that we are doing in school. The children did really enjoy 'Secret Agent Training' in the Autumn term and we may reintroduce this later in the Spring Term as a form of revision for what we have been learning about.

SPELLINGS

The spelling list will now be at the top of the page. Any help that you can do at home to support your child will be greatly appreciated. We have also recently launched Spelling Shed in the school and weekly spellings will also be updated onto this.

We believe that it is very important to establish good communication between home and school and will do our very best to keep you up to date with what is going on in school. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher and we will do our best to help.

Thank you for your co-operation,

Year 2 Team smiley
