Welcome back to school! We are looking forward to working with you and your child this year. Here is some useful information:
Both classes will have an indoor and outdoor P.E. session each week (Tuesdays and Fridays). Due to the current situation, a PE kit is not required in school however we would like children to come to school in trainers so that they have appropriate footwear for sport.
Your child will usually be given 2 reading books to read at home. The situation is currently under review with regards to sending things to and from school. In the meantime, please see this handy website:
Click on the Teacher Portal
These are read along materials. However, if you switch the volume off on your computer or device this will encourage your child to read aloud independently. Please choose a book which matches your child's current book band colour.
If your child suffers from either of these, please let the class teacher know.
We encourage children to drink water regularly throughout the day. Please ensure that your child’s drink bottle is clearly labelled.
Homework will be sent home once every half term in the format of a Tic-Tac-Toe Grid. You will be given a homework book in the next couple of weeks to decorate with your child as well as a paper copy of the grid. Please see the 'Homework' tab on the website for more information.
OVERVIEWS AND EXPECTATIONS
We appreciate that you have worked very hard with children at home over lockdown and the summer holidays and we are trying to make school as normal as possible for the children on their return. At Little Bowden, we are conscious of ensuring that the children are eased back into the routine at school and will be talking lots in our PSHE lessons to ensure the well being of the children is cared for. We will also be teaching any work that children may have missed towards the end of their time in Year 1. We have uploaded some Year 2 End of Year expectations onto the website as well as an overview stating what we intend to teach over the Autumn Term. There will be an opportunity to talk to your child's class teacher in the parents evening phone calls during September.
We will not be sending any spellings home for the first half term. We are going to be spending some time ensuring that the children's phonics knowledge is secure. Any help that you can do at home to support your child will be greatly appreciated.
We believe that it is very important to establish good communication between home and school and will do our very best to keep you up to date with what is going on in school. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher and we will do our best to help.
Thank you for your co-operation,
Year 2 Team
