Adding the suffix –ly.
We can add the suffix –ly to root words to make an adverb.
Tip: When a word ends in y, we swap the y for an i before adding –ly: happily, easily.
Welcome back to school! We are looking forward to working with you and your child this year. Here is some useful information:
Both classes will have an indoor and outdoor P.E. session each week (Wednesdays and Fridays). Due to the current situation, a PE kit is not required in school however we would like children to come to school in trainers so that they have appropriate footwear for sport.
Your child will now have 2 reading books sent home each week and these are usually changed on a Monday. Please ensure that the reading record is brought into school every day for reading with the adults in school. We encourage as much reading at home as possible (even if it is just 5 minutes a night) and making sure that children are reading fluently and understanding some tricky words that they come across. We are happy for you to also read any books that you have from the library or from online services.

These are read along materials. However, if you switch the volume off on your computer or device this will encourage your child to read aloud independently. Please choose a book which matches your child's current book band colour.
If your child suffers from either of these, please let the class teacher know.
We encourage children to drink water regularly throughout the day. Please ensure that your child’s drink bottle is clearly labelled.
Homework will be sent home once every half term in the format of a Tic-Tac-Toe Grid. The homework books have now been sent home and you can find the current homework under the homework tab below.
OVERVIEWS AND EXPECTATIONS
We appreciate that you have worked very hard with children at home over lockdown and the summer holidays and we are trying to make school as normal as possible for the children on their return. At Little Bowden, we are conscious of ensuring that the children are eased back into the routine at school and will be talking lots in our PSHE lessons to ensure the well being of the children is cared for. We will also be teaching any work that children may have missed towards the end of their time in Year 1. We have uploaded some Year 2 End of Year expectations onto the website as well as an overview stating what we intend to teach over the Autumn Term. There will be an opportunity to talk to your child's class teacher in the parents evening phone calls during September.
The spelling list will now be at the top of the page. Any help that you can do at home to support your child will be greatly appreciated.
We believe that it is very important to establish good communication between home and school and will do our very best to keep you up to date with what is going on in school. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher and we will do our best to help.
Thank you for your co-operation,
Year 2 Team
