Autumn Term Welcome Letter

Dear Parents/ Carers,
Firstly, welcome to Reception at Little Bowden Primary School. It has been lovely to meet all of the children. Everybody looks so grown up in their uniforms with their lovely, big smiles! In Reception, we operate a broad, balanced and creative curriculum which focuses upon the importance of learning through play. We want the children to have lots of fun as well as learn.

We will be having a parent’s information session on ...tbc September and you will receive details from the office regarding this. You will be invited to attend one of the three sessions 3.30-3.50, 4.00-4.20 or 5.00-5.20. You will only need to attend one of the sessions. These are repeated to enable parents with siblings in other year groups to attend one for each child.

Below is some useful information:

Reading at home
Please read lots of different stories to your child at home. Ask them questions about what is happening in the story. Can they guess what might happen next? Ask them to re-tell the story to you. Can they tell you who the characters in the story are? Look for letters and words in the environment. This will support your child further as we begin our phonics lessons.

Maths at home
It is important that the children can recognise and count the numbers in order 0 to 10.  Look for numbers and shapes in the environment. Can they find a number 2 on a door or a number 7 on the bus? Ask children to get you 3 pencils or 4 spoons. Can they count how many chairs are around the table whilst touching each item as they count for example?

P.E.
Our P.E. days will be on...tbc . Please send your child wearing their P.E kit on these days. If your child wears ear-rings please remove these before school on these days. Please note this will start on the week commencing 11th September, when the children are all in full time.

Water Bottles and Snacks
Please label your child’s water bottle. In line with our school policy, please ensure that bottles are filled with only water.  Please do not put water bottles inside your child’s book bags to avoid ruining any books, if they leak! All children will be offered a piece of fruit during the day but you may decide to send your child with an additional snack. Children can bring in fresh or dried fruit and raw vegetables to eat during snack time. It would be useful to send these in a named plastic box or little bag, so they do not muddle them up with another child’s snack.

Phonics
We follow the Read Write Inc Phonic scheme and will be sending out phonic information in due course.
We want your child to have a wonderful, happy year in Reception in preparation for the rest of their school life. If you have any questions, concerns or worries, please come and talk to us any time.

Name belongings

Please, please, please name EVERYTHING  - especially items that they take off when in role play such as shoes, jumpers/cardigans and don't forget book bags, water bottles and fruit pots.

Thank you,
The Reception Team
