'Red Words' (sometimes referred to as 'Tricky Words') are words that cannot be sounded out using Phonics. Instead, they are words that have to be learnt through sight-reading. Children learn 'Red Words' during their English lessons. Please see below a useful list of 'Red Words' that your child will be taught during their time in Key Stage One (EYFS to Year Two). Initially your child will focus on Phase 2 and 3 Red Words.
